Stopped by the dealer today to have them remove the air temp Gage and add a matching Oil temperature Gage. The dealer said that part number 75320-05A will not fit the 09 and up FLHXSE but it will fit the standard FLHX? So anyone have any experience with this? if you have a dash mounted oil temp gage in place of the air temp gage on your 09 or later street Glide COV what are you using? Thanks! ~~ Yale
Gauge should be a direct replacement. I purchased mine from J&P cycles and it matches the other Harley gauges. Had to play with the wiring to get it working properly, tight fit.
I hooked mine up directly to the oil pan where it will read the oil temp in the in the pan regardless of the oil temp, and not in line at the oil cooler like the Harley gauge does. You will need an adapter bushing to hook up the sending unit in the pan. Do not use TFE tape on the fitting, use a small amount of pipe sealer on the last three threads toward the top.
Harley advises:
Harley gauge "when installed in combination with an oil cooler, gauge will not read accurate temperature until the vehicle has reached operating temperature and the thermostat has opened".
Went on harleys parts site..here is what it says "Will not fit '09-later FLTRSE3, FLHXSE and FLHTCUSE4/5."
I guess thats what he read and said...sorry we don't have one that fits.
I put one on my 09 road glide (se) I just used the air temp gage bracket, and trimmed off one of the long terminals with a cutoff tool to make it shorter to let the stock bracket work. easy! I had used the bracket that comes with the otg, and it kept popping the glass face off, have had no trouble since using the air temp gauge bracket
I can not understand why it would not fit. I put one on my 2008 Ultra which ia basically the same bike. The ONLY thing I can think of is that the S/E gauges are a different face finish than mine and the oil temp. gauge is not available in that S/E finish. If you don't mind a gauge with a different face color, I think it would fit just fine. That is probably what they mean.
So here is the official Answer from Harley to the dealers Service manager.
It will not fit because of where the oil filter and the oil cooler are mounted you can't connect the probe. You need to remove the oil cooler otherwise there is not enough room. Well it really doesn't make any sense to remove the oil cool so you can tell if the oil is getting hot.
mount the temp sensor (probe) in the oil tank like its suppossed to be there's a plug on the left side of the pan remove it and the sensor goes right there
The CVO forums has covered this...
there findings has been it will work and you can indeed hook it up just like you always have on models past...
The reason H-D has the claim with it not working in the 09 models is the back lighting ...The new 09 models have a new look of LED back lighting on the 09 and newer guages and the -05a still incorporates the older incandesant bulbs and the back lighting doesn't match like we would expect...
The guage will still replace the air temp guage without no problem what so ever but the lighting will not match is all...
take the time if you install the oil temp guage to run the lines to the oil pan for a much cleaner look...

The Harley oil temp gauge itself will mount in your 09 dash. The hardware in the kit will not fit some bikes with oil coolers. Purchase the oil temp gauge and kit probe from someone like drag specialties or JP Cycles and just have Harley or a good motorcycle shop install it. They have a gauge that matches the Ultra SE instrument panel.
To get an accurate oil temp reading the temp probe needs to be mounted in the oil pan. There is an existing fitting in the front portion of the oil pan that can be used for the probe, you will need a bushing to adapt the oil sending probe to the pan, or purchase the proper sending unit.
The way Harley does it will not provide an oil temp reading until the the thermostat in the cooler opens, and you get no reading until then. Bad way to do it. Because of the oil cooler arrangement and the way it is plumbed it won't work on some bikes. This is all Harley has to offer, so they say you can not do it.
Be forewarned normal oil temps on the newer bikes run around 230-260 degrees on a hot day. That's why most guys run a 20W50 synthetic motorcycle oil
