I have a 2007 Ultra Screaming Eagle. Just had the 15k ck-up. All was well after riding around Delmarva yesterday when I noticed that my clutch lever was too easy to depress and had little or no friction zone. I stopped at a light, and had it in first when I rev'd the engine before taking off with the clutch handle fully depressed, the bike lurched forward as I rev'd it just a little. Thankfully I had my hand brake depressed or I'd have rear ended the car in front. When I got onto Ocean Hiway, it was limping along... it huffing & puffing and I could smell something burning. There was NO friction zone on the clutch lever as it was now completely free floating.. and with cops nearby, I could not stop the freaking bike except to kill the engine in the middle of an intersection as I blew the light. Luckily I got it in neutral started it and got it back to my place. About an hour later I went back to it, and it is now fine.. friction zone is normal..and I rode it aournd for about 5 minutes. Now I am spooked.. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated. I have an appt with the shop but fear I will be told no trouble found.
Hey Steveo,
Thanks.. that was the first thing I did, and all is full... taking it into the shop today... was hoping to get some feedback on what it might be so I don't get hoodwinked... and I can discuss it with the mechanci some what intelligently.
Sounds like they bled the clutch during the service and accidentally let some air in the line at the bleed valve. 1/4" wrench, pull your clutch lever, open and bleed the valve that is on the top of your side tranny cover then close the valve and let go of the clutch lever. Do this a few times. Be sure to clean the fluid off the bike.
