Default 2000 screamin eagle road glide

hi guys im looking at buying a 2000 screamin eagle road glide with 45k on it. i am alittle concerned with the miles and the fact that the owner hasnt done anything with the cam chain tensioners. he told me that the first owner sold it to him with 40k on it 3 years ago. i asked him if i could get the name and number of the original owner and he said he moved down south. my question is if the original owner sold the bike with 40k do u think there is a chance he did anything with the tensioners? also the owner said he always ran full synthetic in the bike. ive heard that that extends the tensioners alittle bit. the bike it in mint condition and the guy is asking $8800 how the price sound?

Comperison: Cl (fla) 2001- 67000 miles $8600, so that price doesnt sound bad to me. If you wanted to be sure you could have bike ck out before hand to feel better. If that won't work plan on service as soon as you but it. Good luck

I think it's a good price, depending on condition and exactly what comes with it. If it has most of the original SERG equipment, like the lowers and trunk, it's a great deal. If it comes with all the original equipment, like the owner's manual, tool kit, saddlebag and trunk liners and bike cover, it's an excellent deal.

I had 57,000 on my 2000 SERG before checking the cam chain tensioners, and they were worn out then. Caught them in time to prevent any damage though. Replaced with S&S gear drive.

If it was me, I'd just have them checked as soon as possible after buying it. Replace with gear drive or the HD hydraulic tensioners if needed. Not a big deal to check them, and worth it to replace, if only for peace of mind.

If the previous owners had work done by any HD dealer, service records should be in a database any HD dealer can look up by VIN #.

Yeah, gotta watch that mileage, ( I have 124,000 on mine,) but that's how good that motor is IMO. My tensioners went at 81,000 miles, but I wouldn't count on it with all of them. I went with gear drives 2 years and 40 plus thousand miles ago and never looked back.

The 2000 had the "good" crank with the Timken Lefty bearing, so the gear drive was for me a no-brainer.

The MM Injection has been perfect when warmed up, sometimes cantankerous on cold idle though.

I didn't do anything much to mine except replace the charging system with a 3 Phase unit at 57,000 miles, swapped out the wheel bearings, swingarm bushings and motor mounts at 100,000 miles and service it every 5,000 miles since the beginning. ( See my Sig line.)

I am on my 3rd exhaust, (headers get tired of the vibration after awhile,) and my second seat. The seams split on the first one about 2 years ago. (Man, I loved that S/E seat!)

Price sounds about right too. There are only about 1550 of them in either red or black and orange so they'll always be unique.
Mine will be rebuilt before I'd ever consider selling it.

Good Luck!

For that price I would buy it. I actually paid a little more for mine a few years back. I think I had 36K on the odo when I got it , and the first thing I did was check the tensioners. Good thing I did-they were worn bad. I think buying the bike would be a smart move because the market for a good, reasonable priced used Road Glide is tight. My brother has been looking for a good used one for months, all high miles and big money.
I'd buy it.

Just did the gear drive in mine also- practically no runout. While I had it apart, went up to 98" pistons, pro street heads, 2 into 1 exhaust. Still have to get it set up--to cold and no money. OH yeah, if you get the bike, put a True Trac on it. you'll notice the difference.
