Hi all
Iron quest still on-going..
Came across this today. The only thing that worries me - of course - is the milage. 70000km/44000miles. He said the cam tensioners has been checked/controlled and found ok...
So the question is returning - Is the milage and the conditions of cam tensioners something to worry about? Should I get an objective garage to check for me?
My old 01 had similar miles on it 44,XXX.
I did the tensioners last winter, they had some meat left on them.
But were very brittle and while checking them the back one started to disintegrate. So my timing was perfect.
If you are not going to do the work yourself I would put that cost into the price or at least plan on doing it. A lot of people just look at the front one, the back "seems" to wear more. Did this person take any pictures?
I had the guy I bought my 01 from show me the condition before I bought it.
The sale was contingent on the condition of tensioners.
But odds are they are brittle.
Thanks a beautiful bike (except for that goofy air cleaner). I wouldn't worry about the mileage as long as the tensioners have been checked/changed. It's not a big job to check 'em. It's a bit of a job to change 'em. But that wouldn't put me off at all.
ditto with mike... 44k isn't an issue on a well maintained bike.. but to ease you and most others mind,, if it was mine I'd for sure change out the tennsioners ASAP...
the present owner just don't want to put another $700-$800 in the bike only to get the same selling price... I'd offer $500 less because they need swapped out to seal the deal...
