Laid down 10 years ago. Hasnt run since. Recently acquired by me.
Ten digit number on engine, doesn't match frame.
Frame numbers are a couple hundred higher than the reported " non matching infamous 79".
No it is Not a Parts bike unless the title don't match the Frame. Just like John said.
The Motor may be almost anything, and It probably is Not a 1979 80 incher. unless it came out of a Bagger. Or of course...it was Rebuilt....

There quite a few 80" Shovels in the 79 Chassis that weren't baggers ( FLH' s )
Is it 80 ? Idk. Was it worked ? Yes, so the story goes. Empty Andrews cam boxes, Pistons in boxes, old cam shafts, 4 boxes of old parts with the bike, and a stack of receipts.
I don't really care if if numbers match, I just want her to run again,
I'm going to have many questions in the next few weeks. I hope you guys can lend me some technical knowledge. The tanks are trashed, I have new tanks. The starter is shot, the S&S carb needs a clean, etc,,,,,
The starter makes a slow mesh noise, not a grind but a slow mesh, I took the primary cover off and hit the starter button, the gear made nice contact with ring gear, this time, I accidently had it in gear. And the bike crawled forward by a foot. So I put it in neutral and tried again, it was the same slow churn . I would think if the starter had enough power to roll the bike, it should turn the motor ??
The engine kicks over with what seems normal resistance, 30 psi. Last week in cylinders, today I got 45 psi in front cylinder, I've been trying to lube rings with some sea foam.
I can get 20 psi of oil pressure just by kicking it.
I suppose I should remove the starter and bench test some things ?
Well, in hindsight, as it just occurred to me, I don't think it was a good idea to hit the starter button with the outer primary cover off as the other end of the starter shaft goes into the cover, I hope I didn't mess anything up, I hate learning the hard way. Arg
