My 79 FXS was a 74 CI. But it was supposed to be. Got the last 74 the dealer had before they went to 80 CI

Had to edit my first response. I did read that in '79 they did have some Jinky numbers on the motor that didn't match the frame.

My 79 FXS was an 80. If the case and frame had matching serial numbers in the beginning, they most certainly didn't in the end. (actually never looked, never cared)

First 6-8 months it basically lived with the for one problem or another. As soon as they fixed one problem they found another. they kept bringing techs and parts from the mother ship until finally they said they pulled working parts "off the line".

That bike lasted me until April of last year. The only thing I did after the initial fiasco was normal maintence. It couldn't have been better. Mileage unknown because the speedo broke but didn't care. I sold it to a friend that had drooled over it for years so I could buy a 67 flh police basket bike. It still gets out regularly.

My 79 FXE-F is one with a different motor and frame #'s Came that way from the dealer new.
Daytona beach PD held me for a while back in 1981 because of the different #s. A call to the old Robisons on 92 straightened them out.
