Default Help with front end, identification

I came across a swap meet front end, I have the matching 19 inch mag wheel that this thing hopefully came with. As far as I can tell I am missing the headlight and its mount as well as blinkers. Speedometer drive and both brake calipers are there with pads too.

What is it to? Fxr, sporty an Evo? I posted here because it looks shovel era.

Thanks,
Tom

Hmmm that is interesting. OK first I would say from the pictures, 100% HD part not aftermarket. We need a better shot of the calipers to help identify the year (or at least I do). If I assume the lower fork cover is stock, I would say late Shovel/ early Evo era.

The interesting part is the dampers adjusters at the top of the tubes. All from memory here, but not too many HD's came with them. Either something very exotic like an XLX Sportster or maybe an FXR Convertible or similar.

What does the front Mag look like, post a picture of that as well. If it has a red stripe around it, XLX might be the answer. Looking up what year they did away with the front wheel speedo drive will help as well.

More opinions will follow I am sure.

Based on what little I can see. If stem is not 1" it is 1978+ Ironhead.
If the stem is 1", then 1977+ FX or Later than 1979 Ironhead, interchangeably.
Including early FXR.

Measure the length from bottom tree at the bearing to the Axel.

The H535 is the anti-theft number. The early bikes had code numbers on the major components. Back in the day an LEO could call the factory and determine if that particular part was mated to the corrtect bike (or not).

That looks a lot like it, Racepres. Nice looking Evo fxr in your pic.
Thank you,
Tom

two different ones of that front fork were made one the tube is 23 1/4 and the other is 25 1/4 the fraction may be off but the inch number is correct and the internal parts do not interchange, i dont remember what one is the early but you would have to disassemble the fork bottom is the difference - does it really matter no

the front pair of brakes tend to clack when applied at slow speeds always bothered me, and they dont stop like the later calipers with the 10 inch rotors they use - pad material is iffy some work better then others and only a couple of companys make pads any more for them

Looks identical to the front end on my stock '78 FXS. The fork tube top cap bolts appear to be after market, though. Sliders have the same "flats" where the amber reflectors were stuck on and the calipers are the same as well. The brake lines look the same.

What's the diameter of the fork tubes? 35mm or 39mm? Once you know click on the link and that should help ya.
