Also his gas spills out the filler can on the low leaning side. Is the tank sitting wrong? Also Wth is up with the dash?
Sorry if I seem stupid but don't want to tear into much while I wait on my shop manual.
This may have already been answered. Gas leaking from left side filler is probably due to a deteriorated/aged rubber seal on the gas cap or the wrong cap being used. The left side cap is a standard non-vented cap because the fuel will gravitate to it when on the sidestand. These caps are easily obtained. If you only need a new rubber seal and cannot find one anymore, you can cut one from fuel resistant rubber- neoprene, Viton etc.
The instrument pod. Looks to be attached properly. They had a gap between the tank and the pod. Harley later offered a rubber sealing trim piece if it bothers you. I can provide a part number. Notice that the pod is attached to rubber vibration isolators. It is not rigidly mounted. Watch for these rubbers to break with age. Again, easily replaced.
You can still find a lot of these things at H-D but you also have J&P and others who stock a lot of such small incidental parts.
This bike has seen some rough treatment. I hate to see machinery maintained in such a crude fashion. That it still seems to run properly is a testament to the robustness of the Shovelhead motor.
Also important- check your swingarm bearings and pivot shaft bolt as well as the steering head bearings. The engine is not the only part deserving attention. Shocks are probably shot too. Front fork probably needs at least an oil change.
Looks like a couple odd little things that someone futzed with.
Nothing to get in a twist over.
Attend to them and get it rolling.
We've seen genuine abortions here over the years.

Poor don't count....Builders square Tarps are cheap - Free....
Adjusted the clutch this weekend and it did not good the guts need to be replaced. Found a set of plates from J&P for around a hundred but not going to touch it till he puts up the cash for parts. Also found a site tonight to download themail factory manual free! So that's a huge plus!
Main reason I'm doing all this is my love for motorcycles/Harley. He might have let it get this bad but I'm hoping I can save it from dying for good. Least it's safe in my garage for now lol.
Sorry it's been so long guys BUT.
With the local harley Guru watching over my shoulder n telling me what to do next I got the clutch replaced. He got the thing so hot he melted the plastic spacer thing (can't remember what he called it) at the very inside of all the plates. Put new guts in steels n clutch plates as the old ones were SMOKED got new non vented cap on and going to replace ignition switch (last shop put in the cheapest thing they could n it went to ****) now the guru is checking for a a.c. cover and going to do a little fine tuning and see what happens. Pretty proud of what I accomplished so far lol.
