So last Wednesday I purchased an 1980 fxe 1200 I've got the bike riding and it's on the road after about 12 hours worth of work now my question is what can I do to make this thing ride better on the highway with speed limits of 80 miles an hour without feeling like it's wrapped up on the RPMs
while a 6 speed has some value 3 - 4 K is a bit much for my pocket
put a 24 front sprocket on the trans and a 44 in the back you will be able to do the same thing for a set of gears and wont have to shift it 2 more times
the negative is in town you will never get out of second and third gear
Speed limits of 70 are much more realistic on a shovel without extensive work and $$$ being spent and it'll still vibrate your hands and feet numb if you don't get it right.
Huge gearing differences between the old bikes and todays ***** glides , they'll never ride the same.
I always did sprocket changes as mentioned above but most "comfortable" speed was always in the 65-70 speed. Heck even with my 07' I enjoy the ride much more if I keep the speed down to that.
Ok so I adjusted the pushrods due to a minor ticking sound got all lashing out and 4 turns down waited a few min and moved to next now there is a louder sound and not ideling as well. Checked screen. Oil flowing into oil tank.

. So you are referring to the drive gear on the transmission and the sprocket on the back tire correct

not to be rude but that does not answer my question I am in my 30s and I like to go fast I have a 2016 Street Glide that hauls *** I would like my old shovel to do the same my bike already runs 70 with no issues but when I get closer to 85 and 90 it sounds like it is wrapped out right now I am looking into 88 inch Stroker possibly and will be doing the 24 48 sprocket change. Sprocket change first of course LOL my pockets are pretty shallow
