What do yall think about the pics of inside the cam chest?
I am still curious about the pushrod and lifters being the way they are
Some have suggested partial evo conversion
Should i put it back together like this or any insight helps.

there was no washer inbetween the breather gear and gear cover, you can see the mark on the cover. the breather gear was tough to pull out. tiny metal slivers were on the breather gear

the 2 spacers washers were behind the cam, to me all the bushings and needing bearing seem ok

the cam is marked andrews b or maybe andrews 8, it is hard to read
the tappets are solid one piece, rollers seem ok, they all slide free except the rear cylincer inside one is stuck, I had to push on it pretty hard to get it to slide
the tappets do not drop out the bottom except the rear cylinder outside

the breather valve is an early one and was set up incorrect as the shim pin became the thrust not the thrust washer it is supposed to hold in place -- the breather hole is also damaged, we have the tools to re bore the breather hole with the motor in place, BUT I have over the past few years been installing the S&S reed breather valve when we see that level of damage and leave it alone, the return oiling shovel system will work if your using that as well -- look up reed breather S&S before asking questions so we are on the same page

the solids are after market and the rollers should be all free turning and no play in and out, if one is not you need all new lifters, but we have tools to replace the rollers and so should a real bike shop in your area - Twinkie boutiques usually have no idea what to do with a shovel be careful

its a solid lifter Andrews B cam old stuff better ones are around now, but that works if its not damaged from the lifter -- look close at the lobes for skid markings

change the seal and the inner bearing a special tool is needed to remove it, BTW and we also have the tool to install the bearing but its not in stone that way to install

I looked at the reed breather valve and like the idea of it. Less friction, fewer parts spinning aound.

I could only find a part for an evo. I called s&s and they said they do not have or recommend the reed breather for a 76 shovel. They recommendd buying the over sized breather gear and having it bored out.

I dont know the diffenences in the bores. Are there modifications needed to use the evo reed breather or am I not looking in the right direction?

OK S&S got caught with their pants down - emissions - and the DEP

you can not invent something that changes the way a fuel powered engine of any type works with air blowing out of it into the ( air )

I have used them in panheads - shovelheads - evos of all years - I was actually going to try and use one in a knuckle BUT the scavenge and how the knuckle oil is with draw into a hole ( breather cavity ) is way different < to many words to type a real explain

all the reed does is cense the air pressure and lets it escape the lower unit into the cam cover W/ the piston moving downwards, then when it turns negative piston moving upwards, it shuts off the escape to the cam cover area - way to simple to try and explain differently then that

they come std and .030 oversize like all the rest the tool makes it to .030 put a standard size in
