Garage Find
Just got a '71 FLH and need some help finding the wiring and or harness from the two switches located behind the right fork that operate the flasher and headlights. I got a wiring diagram online but it isn't exactly clear in how the headlamps are wired. I have the front end apart and there is only one wire that had been modified and I don't wish to Mickey Mouse the wiring. Basically want to keep it original as it has under 10k miles.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

the head lamps are NOT controlled by the switches on the cowl r/s toggles - that's for the Fog / spot lights and the 4 way flasher
the ignition switch turns one more click to the right and that is ignition and headlights
the left side handle bar has a toggle 2 position switch that is hi and low beam - the right side toggle on the bar is directional left and right
some variants can be in place but that is Harley correct

I am not picking on your great find please understand -
the seat is from a later AMF bike - and they did not come 2 tone paint on the bat wing plus I believe the color is incorrect
John Pierce colorrite has the only real place to get correct restoration colors, and I did a 1971 that has been judged at the AMCA its not a joke when it comes to what they see as correct and Not correct
the photo is the one I did and its was at motorcyclepedias museum winners circle exhibit for 3 years

You are probably right on all fronts. The seat pictured is like the one in the manual but the color has been redone as the bags and fairing should be white. It has been abused over the years and was finally put to rest in a barn until the widow sold it to me.
Thank you for the information.
Hopefully I'll have it fixed better by the time the show comes around

a couple of things I would suggest you do
first clean out all the fluids including the forks
they like 50 weight oil in the engine - 75/90 gear oil in the trans GL4 only look at the label - I use 30 weight lawn mower oil in the forks lowes or home depot
get rid of the points - I use and have a few of these in my collection - ed from e 2000 sells a magnet trigger that replaces the points - when was it the last time you had a magnet not work
do this the first year as things come up with an older machine and they are not cheap to fix - if you use a twinkie shop for your other bikes they know nothing about that machine no matter what they might tell you - use caution as to who you leave it with
the 1965 in this picture we re did it last year after it had been in another shop and they stole 10,000 dollars work of original pieces off of it and installed china crap and the guy did not know the difference until he went to sell it
its all correct now but it cost him to get what he originally had back and the shop that did that is gone
clean the carb out real good - adjust the brakes front and back - replace the drive chain with an O Ring type - remove the primary and install a kevlor clutch ( I use ALTO )
