as some of older guys can attest to - it was who you knew and the right places to go to find the deals
bikers for the most part were the bad boys and machines were always available, in bail money deals or commissary
having been born on MacDougal street ( The village ) in the city and growing up on staten island the burbs we paid more for stuff, and you had to do to PA or jersey trip to get the real deals. skimbo in jersey city had a pile of Indians stacked one on top of another and garages full of chopper take offs - one day I pulled in the drive way and a 40 yard dumpster was filled over flowing with OEM take offs to build choppers, I yelled at him and he said the real estate is m0re important then saving all that stuff
having said that PA was and still is for the most part the best place to find original stuff no way as cheap but its still around - buying a non running anything when I was a kid was pocket change compared to today -
pans they are correct about what they bought in PA back then was a different world, people with different values,
