Default String Damper?

Having the shovel as my second bike a little over a year now, I've never had an adjustable steering damper on the top triple tree. I believe the amount of damper spring applied would help to stabilize the steering under heavier loads. The FSM really didn't give me any kind of guide lines or examples to the amount necessary under certain situations. So how do I know if I have enough damping applied and where or how do I feel it? Is too tight bad? Is it similar to setting the fall away on an Evo when adjusting the triple tree bearings? Thanx...

Steering damper for a Shovel would only apply if you had raked triple trees because you were running a hack. If you think your front end steering may be off you need to check the "fall away" on your front end. Procedure is in the FSM.

By saying hack, you mean not the original front end? I'll have to check the rake to the manual specs. As for fall away, I imagine it's the same as setting the evo...

"Hack" usually refers to a sidecar.

that is a pan type adjustable - they always come with the frame having a pin installed in the frame and the stay pieces all affixed to the bottom and facing to the rear of the bike

can you post a picture of the bottom of the lower tree just under the bearing location ??? don't know what they did

unless it has a system under the top tree I don't see what it does and how it actually might work the way it is

having said that I am in aware of a china add on that might do a squeeze somehow
