Default Tranny help.

Damn trannys always gumming up the works right?

Bullshit aside, I'm hoping someone can tell me what my options are here. Trying to finish this bike. I've built it piece by piece, getting close to getting it wrapped up.

Issue is that I'm trying to fit a hub and basket to this trans but the shaft is tapered. I think that's a later style that only allows for a wet primary but I'm not 100% on that. I'm planning on running an open belt primary.

You can see that the hub does not fit the tapered shaft.

Check out the pics and hopefully someone can tell me what the options are. From what I can see, I think the only thing I can do is swap the mainshaft. I don't have an issue with that, I just need to know if that's what I need to do. I don't think there is a dry belt hub that will fit this shaft. If the shaft does need to be swapped, which shaft do I need to hunt down?

Any help is appreciated.

Here's some pics of the bike as well as the issue.

All 4 speeds have a taped shaft...there are multitudes of "dry belt hubs" that will fit...including the one in your picture..unless there is something wrong with it

Any chance the clutch hub you have is for something other than a Big Twin motor? Thinking what you are trying to fit there is actually a clutch hub for a 45 cu in side valve tranny.

Good looking build so far.

I think I got it.

There's a gap between the hub and the plate but I've read that's normal and the belt seems to line up.

the gap you are talking about is for the bearing that is housed in the primary your not using

what you have is what you need to have for it to work

I ran it by a buddy and he said the same thing the other day so I'm set.

Appreciate the help guys. Hoping to get this thing in the next few weeks. Trying to have it ready for Born Free.

Thanks a lot man, appreciate that. Been working on it for about a year, most of that was finding the parts I wanted.

Old partner of mine ran a hardtail setup like that with the ring gear still on it and a short jockey shift on the trans, he also had arms like a gorilla his hands about reached his knee's. Little too much party one night and he picked up a new nick name, 3 finger Frankie

Good looking sled man.
