Default Rebuilt engine need electrical help

well after a long winter finally got my 81’ wideglide shovelhead engine rebuilt and back in the chassis. My inde did a great job with the rebuild. Under his recommendations I switched from the electronic ingnition to a points system “ the electronic unit was cracked and failing “. The bike has always had “2” dyna coils “5 ohms” since I bought it. My question is how do I wire the points to the 2 coils. There is 1 black wire coming from the points and 1 white wire already connected to the coils that’s bridges the 2. Any help would be great. Unfortunately my inde has left for Florida for the summer.

Really need to know what coils you have to determine how to wire them or if they are suitable for points. Points need a total resistive load of about 5 ohms to work well and if those coils are 5 ohms each then your out of luck unless you want to add a ballast resistor to the works. I think some of the single primary coils are sold as 5 ohm "sets" but not positive on that. Measure across the primary side of a single coil and see what you have. If a single coil is around 2.5 ohm then they get wired in series with 12V at one end of the system and wire form points at the other with a bridge wire in between the coils. Polarity will be important in this case and will usually be marked on the coils. If each coil measures 5 Ohm then you would have to wire in parallel with a suitable resistor between the coils and points for a reliable set up. A Pic of your coil setup would help too.

Thanks for the response, they are dyna coils and say on the bottom of them 5 ohms. On each individual coil.
I can post some pictures tomorrow.

they come single discharge or duel discharge - single or duel plugs - single or duel fire

your info is lacking and no pictures everything is a guess and usually no help because of it

Well guys I could not get pictures to load up the other day, but good news is that I figured it out. One wire from the points needed to be hooked up then a wire bridging the coils together. All is good and the new engine is breathing life!

Maybe... Need to see that too... In series, which this sounds like... yer at 10 Ohms... if Parallel ie hot to one side ea. and Triggers [from points] to each coil [split] will be just a Bit less than 5 ohms..
Betting you had a Single plug, single fire setup previous... and yer "guy" should have recommended a Singlefire Dyna-S... IMO...
But...,as stated... we are All just guessing.... Including you...

Edit; Tho I am decidedly against SingleFire with single Plugs... you already have the components...
there is No Advantage to two single tower coils, with DualFire... in fact ... PITA to mount when a Single, dual tower coil will do nicely.....

Guessing at what?
thankfully my engine builder called me to check how things where going. I highly doubt what he instructed me to do was a guess. But thanks for your input.
Be safe!

Uh...I don't want to stir up any bad news here but it looks like the arrow on that piston is pointing toward the rear of the engine.
All the pistons I have installed are supposed to have the arrow pointing toward the front of the engine/bike.
Man, I hope I am not seeing this correctly.
