Default petrol fumes

hello all
1982FLH........ ive just put the primary back together...had the gas tank ,oil tank off...now alls i can smell in my garage is gas (i say Petrol) fumes and its coming from the FLH. ive checked and replaced the top tank breather hose and there is no leaks anywhere around the carb or the tap..there are no leaks coming from the bottom cross over hose either....ive changed over the cap with the breather with no success...its doing my head in as my garage is under my house......any ideas???

ive had it idleing outside and let the carb run out of gas

How about your air filter, is it wet with fuel?

cheers no filter is fine..i think ive found it......it was a big operation as i have 7 bikes in the garage and took them outside one by one to track down which bike the fumes were coming from.....i put the HD back on the hoist with a bright light and could see the tap around the front plate was shiney and smelly.... so i unscrewed the two screws and,...ah ha! an Oring ....i think it was weeping ,not enough yet to see any fuel dribbling down the fuel line but just enough to give off a smell. Now to find the right size Oring replacement...not easy when you live in rural Australia
