will I be able to check the shaft free play with the derby cover removed and the primary cover on?
Seems like I will be able to see it and feel it.
I'll check when I get home. Hopefully I only need to correct the spacing.
The Bendix looks like it definitely got chewed up by slamming to far into the ring gear.
I'm hoping it's only because the whole shaft was traveling, when it should be stationary.
By the way, I ordered an All ***** Bendix. Are they good?
All ***** is good stuff
do not put your fingers inside of the primary unless you disconnect the battery
I have a cut out primary cover where I can see that action
Good luck and be careful
I just found out my starter ring gear is chewed up, and is missing several teeth on the inside. Looks like the teeth are 2 or even 3 layers. All the outer teeth are good.
The ring gear is riveted to the hub shell.
What is the best replacement ring gear for my situation?
Can I remove the rivets and old ring gear and replace with a bolt on gear? Can I use a weld on gear?
What is my best option?
In the "good old days" we would just hit a swap meet and get an entire hub!!! Now???? I guess I don't know what I would do....
Good luck... I'm gonna make a mental note to watch the swaps carefully...
