Default Girders

'76 FXE project.
Anyone know of a company currently making short (like stock length) girder front ends?
The owner wants to run a fat 16" front tire so he'll want it wide enough to fit that.

Sorry, no help... I will say that a Girder seems Singularly suited for Long... even very Long [I may even have one around here.... can you say Digger]
While experience shows that Springers are perhaps superior for more Upright, and Shorter applications...
Just something I "Feel" can't prove it... tho I ride Both....

Road a girder back in the day for a while... a short while. They look good but can be a tooth chipper.

called a “leafer” .. popular once.
I still feel that a girder can ride better than a springer. And I wouldn’t hesitate to run one of the old A&E girders for instance

I had an old MM&M springer 16 over I think -- 21" front wheel -- the springers were made on the west bank of new Orleans in Gretna,la --- this one was on a 1951 panhead -- pogo stick I called them - -- one day in fact 3 days before I got married some dumb chick turned left on me in a chevy 2, I hit the rear 1/4 on the passenger side - destroyed my helmet and gave me a huge black eye -- when I got married the judge said " I heard of shotgun weddings but never this .. did she run you over boy?

I bent the springer back and welded a support bracket on it and rode it again -- ( new front wheel) -- about 3 months later some kid came out the store and backed over the wheel -- yup he took off - someone got his # and when the cops and 1 went there he had it in the garage -- it was his granny's big mardi gras float -- -- I took the bike home and bent the springer again and tossed in a broken S&S cover and a few other goodies -- man I got $ 900 bucks for that -- $900 1973 money - I bought a DURFEE 15 over girder and a 21" wheel -- new tank and new paint + other goodies

Last really long bent up springer I dealt with we welded a mailbox to it and sunk that puppy in a couple bags of sacrete out on the end of an old partners driveway. His old lady said that was best use he ever got out of it

a friend had an old bent up frame from his pan-- they dug a hole and stuck the thing neck end up and welded a mail box on it -- the old hag next door had her son dig it up and take it to the dump. his ole lady came home from work and called him.. the old woman denied it until a neighbor came forward with snap shots of him removing it.. well the next day it was back.. not in the hole but tossed on the yard.. he planted it and she called the city-- they told him -- cant have it and got the postal service involved-- seems theres a law about the type of mail box you can have -- he left it planted and the post office told the carrier to put the mail on the porch.. some people have no life at all..

I got this for my chopper project:

https://www.spitfiremotorcycles.com/product-page/the-girder

Built
to order, many lengths, + and - degrees options available, 2000up brakes brackets options available, etc
They've been around for years
I THINK I got mine off ebay, maybe slightly cheaper than their website, don't remember
