The pink is signal from ignition and the white is 12v pos from wherever
cznt say about speedo they are not all interchangeable
which speedo you got and Id it oe or chiwanese.
So, pink= signal, white= power. Which of the other 2 wires ( orange and red) is ground? I am thinking about adapting that style , ie plastic cased Jap models , to my fxe and using the separated gauge brackets. Or.. might it be easier to use aftermarket mini gauges?
Follow-up: I got a pair of those Jap Sportster gauges and they work just fine on my FXE. The only thing I need to change is the speedometer cable as the nut is smaller on the Sportster gauge . The tach wiring fro both the Jap gauge and the FXE gauge is the same--orange wire for ignition/ power and pink for the signal.
Odd... Pink is always signal, and the White at the coil is Power from the Kill switch... Orange to me was always Accessory?? Red??? I do Not recall
Will look tomorrow..
What Sportster used an electric Tach?? Post Ironhead, surely, but, I do Not recall Jap gauges on the Evo Sporty... Just don't know much about Evo Sporty tho..
Good ya got it sorted anyway... Now you can field the next similar Question... LOL
orange is accessory, power to the gauges but also the gauge lights, at least in '79 and probably later - i guess they wanted to save running an extra wire? black is ground. white goes to the coil and both white and orange are hot at the first key position on an FX at least.
^^ That is the way I remember it.. And Pink on a Harley is always tach triggers... other side of coil.
I just realized my 82 FXR has those gauges and I have a factory service manual! The red wire is for the tach and speedo lights. Orange is power for the tach. Pink is trigger. White is the high beam indication in the tach.

Oh *****!!! I forgot there was a High Beam thing... only other white wire I know of.... Thank You!!!
Next time I should prolly get out and Look Huh???? On the road alot just now, so, not in the cards...
My FXR has Not had those Jap Gauges since shortly after new... If you had yours in the '80s you would Understand the Constant Ridicule by the "Faithful", involved with ownership of an FXR!!
