you guys are talking big bucks clutches and drive units while I agree they do work for the intended application the guys are asking about what does a shop buy in USA quality product as in the clutch that works - given ALTO is also very affordable buying all the discs and steels runs around 100 bucks and cheaper depends who you buy from
its the best bang for the buck and they last a good 10 years
no one cares today about how fast the other guys bike is and those guys who drive them are not aloud to come with us on a ride any more - more then once I have had to go and get the truck and trailer to bring the fire breathing POS back to the shop

Yeah, isn't difficult or expensive to get a good clutch in a shovelhead, Alto 6 plate kevlar clutch kit, a ramjet retainer, aluminium pressure plate and barnet springs all off ebay about $120 and it hooked up solid enough to spin the output shaft in the flywheel when I was feeling particularly frisky.
Hot Rodding has its place but the average poster in here just want's to know how to fix his **** reliably and on the cheap 90% of the time.

i have been riding Harleys since 1964 -- in all that time anyone whos been riding for 54 years hot rod or not your gonna take a ride in the back of a pick up truck -- unless you never ride - i blew the rear cylinder off my 1979 80" it was 9:1 compression and had a leinweber L3S cam not really a hot rod but not stock -- my wifes 79 sporty with the robinson thunder heads and the Andrews "Y" cams hasn't seen a pick up truck - now my 100" shovel someone bet me i couldn't do a burn out in 2nd gear - geezz i never saw a broken primary chain go so fast and all the aluminum pieces from the inner primary - and about 6 months later the pinion shaft broke probably a result of the first incident -- 2 times in a truck -- i had more than a few old panheads through the years that had to go for a truck ride - now i have seen people with hot rods need a truck ride - but more of the old stock panheads-- lotsa stuff is from people who just throw stuff together and ride only to have failure - like being told to take it easy on a fresh top end and the just run the bike wide open and stick the pistons --
like now im running this 97" with a belt drive - i only have 800+ miles but i wanna see if the belts gonna take it,,so i might need a pick up if it breaks --
Two things... I always burn out in High Gear [at the Track] looking for hot tire... not hot engine.
Primary Belts are Good... Race Tested in fact... Maybe not Secondary belts.. Have ya seen the Chains Racers use these Days?????
Not been riding Harleys since the '60's... but, Harleys exclusively since I got out of the Canoe Club!!!! Late 70's

I carry a spare primary belt on the bike , pop one about yearly on my 93" , I modded things so a I can change one in about 15 mins on the side of the road. Got priors.....
