I noticed some metal shavings inside my 'open' primary. Upon inspection I discovered this drive disc (X3). I disassembled everything to inspect for damage. Even did a complete cleaning of the clutch hub to make sure no metal shavings got into the bearings.
Should have been an Anti-rattle Ball on top of that Sping, Every other "notch" should have them in fact..
Never seen one come out before... except if the steel was installed backwards... should say "out" or some such, right on the plate..
Hey John,
I've got a '69 FLH with steel anti rattle discs and the clutch on that bike drags big time. What discs would you recommend?
Thanks.
The ***** have never caused me any problems... but steels that are not Flat will.... clean and Scrub those Frictions... that and proper adjustment should [if done correctly] give as good a clutch as any...
While I do Not want the damn ***** coming out... that is the only problem with them I ever encountered
I have cured more clutch problems by ensuring Flat Steels, and Clean Frictions, than any other "Fix"..
YMMV
Simply swap out the steels and Report back....
the maker is ALTO a USA company who start was hi end racing automatic transmission stuff they were in jersey left in the 80s but still in business down south - they make everything in house in the USA
I usa both the red eagle clutch kit - v twin number 18-8279 clutches and the flat steels I use 18-8288 both are usa
the other hi performance discs we use are the kevlor # 18-8280 all of this is on line page 555 ----- 2018 catalog
I run the primo clutch -- noisy as hell -- but there no wobble-- you can find neutral any time with ease - even my little 100lb wife can use the clutch because the pull is so light - no clunk everything you want in a clutch but the rattle-rattle is insane - its like my old 39 knuck was with no spring loaded ***** - its a great clutch for high HP - but for $500 they could have added the anti rattle stuff -- Rivera Primo Pro Clutch Kit - PC-1000-A
II Have a Primo clutch also.. and Have used many clutch brands... Alto is Just OK in my book... but for the price...a good street clutch.. Barnett makes good stuff also..
I use Energy One whenever possible, especially if Performance is Paramount.. Lots of Winning Racers doing the same... Including low 9sec 160mph plus Streetable Harleys
But, we ain't racing Here are we. My Late model [for me] FXR gets Energy One also...Street only...
