got a 1981 superglide blew the engine cracked the casing to death paid dearly to have it rebuilt before after a week base gaskets was leaking so I replaced the motor with an S&S much faster as a 93 cubic inch 8-5 compression will detonate on low octane gas so I run 93 and up octane, feel kinda empty like I've lost something it's no longer original wow is anyone else going through this? the motor fits perfect on the frame, just couldn't risk spending thousands of dollars on a rebuild and it not work and by the way got a two year warranty on the S&S shovel on a rebuild no way you gonna get that, the engine beautiful but not original well yall have it
So you put what $3k+ into the rebuild of the original motor and then swapped it out for another $4k+ and now feeling guilty?????? Whats a case replacement $2k..... Have to say I agree with john AND.... maybe you're not feeling guilty but more like a dumbass......
naw I disagree with clone if it wasn't for S&S the legend would suffer reality is if Harley made a new shovelhead I would buy it , Harley actually threw the shovelhead in the trash they won't even work on them so S&S REALLY IMPOVED IT STILL HAVE THE ORIGIONAL ENGINE but it's cracked where the bolt go through cases no welder will guarantee their weld and if I put other cases on that's not original at all so thanks to S&S we can still ride a 1935 brand new PLUS

Not disputing that S&S makes one heck of a solid bulletproof motor, just the fact that your bike is not a shovel without the Shovel motor (just my belief is all). Have a buddy with a clone pan motor. it is a beast and very solid and will blow the doors off either of my pans. That said if he could afford it he would owna n original Pan or shovel (his words, not mine).
If you are interested in motor repair, you might check with Carls Cycle Supply. They are the only shop I know of now that does really good aluminum welding repair.
well said I wanna buy a brand new shovel want nothing somebody else had messed up won't buy the ultimo it'd made by Jireh cycles a six month guarantee from time of purchase by the time you get the motor and bolt it up the guarantee has expired already, but really I feel like your buddy but where can you find a new shovel?
the mistake was not having the block fixed - at least 6 guys on this site have welders that would not only fix it but re assemble the thing
S&S like it or not is a re pop supplier of copy's of Harley engines and its related parts - clone is the correct term
as a one or two bike owner you only see what you buy and use, some of us have shops and been doing it 2 weeks since the 60s
not everything S&S has made and did has worked out as planed and they were very difficult even to a dealer to get them to not only fess up and take care of the issue - as an owner then tend to be more helpful - most of what they sell does do what they claim but not all
