Part# 43682-80B (21") is listed for 80+ FXWG as well as for 73-80 FXE/EF/B/S models. My assumption would be that although it shows as available as a retrofit for earlier years (parts manual has an 83 part number and shows published in 1986), it was not standard (80 part number) from the factory and I don't show it as available from the Accessory books either. Suppose the answer would be found in a parts book published prior to 1980.
Just goes to show those books ain't perfect... as there is no Way in Hell yer gonna get a Dual Flange Hub type wheel [21" FXWG] into a narrowglide front end....
Conversely... adapting an alloy Hub wheel [19" Spoker, to the Wide Glide is a tough trick, as the brake won't Line Up!!!!

HD 9 Spoke cast wheels yer talkin there... the 7 spoke Morris [1974 to 1976 I guess] were an Option... And the 7 Spoke, Lesters, is total aftermarket...

The 1980 being the very First FXWG... yep and all of them since...Decidedly a Different animal than an FX or FXE

Honestly I really don't want to restore the bike to original and I'm totally comfortable with the style it presently has... It's definitely different and does stand out... Maybe I'll just get an extra set of tins and paint them up OEM and keep everything else the way it is.... I think that's where I was heading when I first started this thread...

wow good news homey the new low riders have a 9 spoke die cast rim
Harley went back in time to produce this one the new low rider HA! HA! HA!
SO 9 SPOKE RIMS ARE DEFINITELY IN STYLE I would just change the front end
make it a 35 mm and call it quits

BTDT... and did Not like the look of a Wide Glide front end, coupled with narrow Tank...Try it...you'll see what I mean.

Well that's part of my problem.. I don't see how it could look good. I like the FL tanks.. Just want to put some color into it.. I'd like to put the chrome setup aside and start with new or good used tins....

The hoarder in me is making it very hard to type this, BUT I have two sets of 5 gallon tanks hanging on the wall. One is for a Panhead with a fuel shut off valve and good paint, the other is the original set form my '70 with some kinda rough custom paint, but recently pressure tested and sealed. Both will function as fuel tanks and both have factory mounts for screw on badges. I could be talked into parting with either set if you are interested. I would imagine the '70 tanks would fit your frame better, but the Pan tanks were on my '70 with a shim at the rear mount and the paint on them is better (The paint I bought the bike with). Up to you, I am local and probably should liquidate the stash, need to make room for more bikes, not parts.

Thanks Bill... I hear ya on the parts/bike thing... I'm kinda collecting too much **** for my Evo and am wondering if it's even necessary...I might be interested in the 70 tanks. Depends on how they would mount up. I really don't want to have to modify anything... Over the weekend I'll check out the mounts on what I currently have and go from there. If you want to text me some pics, tops sides and bottoms I'd appreciate it . Thanks...

Yeh check the parts book and see in '70 translates to '77. As stated, I had them cleaned, tested and sealed about one week before I found my current original paint tanks. So they are solid, but I was going to have them painted. Current paint is rough. PM me an email address and I can send you the pics I have with me.
