The hoarder in me is making it very hard to type this, BUT I have two sets of 5 gallon tanks hanging on the wall. One is for a Panhead with a fuel shut off valve and good paint, the other is the original set form my '70 with some kinda rough custom paint, but recently pressure tested and sealed. Both will function as fuel tanks and both have factory mounts for screw on badges. I could be talked into parting with either set if you are interested. I would imagine the '70 tanks would fit your frame better, but the Pan tanks were on my '70 with a shim at the rear mount and the paint on them is better (The paint I bought the bike with). Up to you, I am local and probably should liquidate the stash, need to make room for more bikes, not parts.
Good offer... and Fat Bobs never changed until the Screw in caps ??? '82 '83, and then in '84 or '85 they went to the Flat-side tanks with those sit on the backbone mounts...
Have someone who has done it the right way... [unless you've done a few] help mount the FatBobs... they are Never a Slap 'em on and tighten the hardware Fit... No two sets seem identical..
BTW I too have extra FatBobs lying about, but, shipping is expensive on such things, and they are generally Not at all Expensive Used... around here anyway!!
bob remember Eddie from rhienbeck long beard short guy blue 48 Indian he told me today when I asked - I knew he had a super glide FXE bike and its a 76 judged in the hi 90s almost exact to a 77 - he said he has 2 original paint color gas tanks with correct decals and he would sell you what ever one you wanted - you can then send the original tank to the guy in PA that matches new paint to old looking paint and that is 3/4 of the battle in backing a bike up >>>> is the paint

But that would be the way to do it. Then you need to find the correct front end, front wheel, OH where will it end.
I know.... That's the thing ... If I go back to the original tank (3.5 gl) then I gotta find the speedo/tach setup, ignition and front end... I will say some one spent a lot of money and time upgrading the primary, front end, tanks ignition forward controls and who knows what else because one thing "ALWAYS"affects another... Next thing you know I got another bike that I've put over $30k into .. and that one is still apart in the shop... Aye yai yai.....

If it were me, I'd leave it as is. Just replace the chrome tins with something painted.
That's what I'd like to do. It's been so modified that it really wouldn't be worth it to restore it, except for self satisfaction... I'm pretty sure any period correct FL tin set would get me there... Although I do like the style rear fender I have on there... What style is that called...
