I used a braided cable made for the S&S, and cut the ferrule off at the grip end, pulled the inner out, trimmed the outer jacket to the length I needed, put the inner back in, tinned the end, and inserted it all into the throttle as normal. I did add a light spring at the carb to ensure the throttle plate would close.
Something else I've seen was to add an old Bendix or Keihin throttle or choke cable attachment to the existing S&S throttle side so the solid cable could still be used.

I did get a emergency road repair kit, and installed it. I tinned the ends too. It works, but there is a lot of resistance. The spring on the Super E is quite strong. The cable moves freely otherwise. I greased the cable too. I'll leave it this way until I can find a permanent solution.

There is a spring on each side of the throttle shaft, throttle return spring and actuator spring for the accelerator pump. Wonder if the throttle spring can be "weakened", or if the accelerator pump actuator spring would be weaker and could be used on both sides.
(Scratching head to locate working brain cells!) - I remember removing the throttle shaft spring on a newer Zenith-Bendix carb. Instead of that spring to ensure positive return I used a spring between the throttle shaft lever and a small home-made bracket on the through-bolt on the engine cases directly below the carb.
