I have a new Super E carb for my Shovel. I have the old style spiral throttle grip with solid cable. What have you guys been doing to use this
or convert to a dual cable system.
we use a braded cable the spring on the S&S will sort of bring it back done it a many times - I forgot the number but Mid USA sells a throttle braded cable repair kit for road breakage that you can use - we get it correct then solder the carb end feral - but the kits end is a screw into the feral that does work
I got a piece of braided (stranded) cable from the hardware store. I ran it through the coiled seething, fluxed and soldered both ends then soldered one end into the feral and used two set screws for the end in the plunger for the grip. It works, but is really rough feeling once hooked up to the carb and spring load.
I found the cable repair kit online.... maybe that cable is more suitable as it's advertised and stainless. I'll try that next.
I have a '79 with a Super E. I have been running it for about 15 years. This winter I bought a universal throttle from JP and then ordered a universal twin cable setup from Venhill. After a few hours of experimenting, it went on and looks a works really well. I wish I had done it years ago. It is nice a smooth and looks good. After dealing with this stuff for lots of years, you are really only limited by your imagination and the depth of you pocket. KW

Did you need to replace the bars to accept the twin cable grip? With the design of the old spiral, the 1" handlebars are not 1" under the spiral grip. Is there an adapter piece?
Mine has aftermarket bars. I didn't have to deal with the internal throttle. I have changed them in the past though. It isn't that hard to remove the mechanism. It just takes a little time and patience. Ken
I wonder if a 7/8 throttle would work? I never tried. I have always gone to buckhorns or beach bars. The oldie I am working on now is a '72 and doesn't have internal stuff. I don't have any of the old handlebars hanging around to do some experimenting. KW
