I removed a .090 shim when I took the shaft extension off. I wanted to verify that this is the correct shim.
Step 1 measure from chain cover surface to the alt rotor. I got that.
Step 2 measure from chain case surface to the clutch disc friction surface. ??
Does this mean that the clutch shell and sprocket have to be on the clutch hub assembly?
Check this pic out and tell me what this is on the clutch hub assembly. I put a tongue depressor there to show this smooth nylon disc that I cannot find in the parts manual.
they were around years back the plastic slider to replace the clutch type disc that was riveted - the idea was always in question - never seen it do anything different then spend the customers money on an un proven idea - in labor
you have it its been in a long time my guess - and has not wrecked anything -
look up ram jet retainer - that works and will make your clutch work as well WAY BETTER
with everything installed we use the chain to the primary ( metal ruler ) to ensure the sprockets are in align
you make the front fit the clutch not the other way around

I looked it up thanks. The RJR has no visible grooves or scoring, when they were new I'm guessing they were the same thickness as the disc it replaced.
It will be interesting to see if the chain alignment is still good. I'm waiting for my OEM stator to arrive, I was surprised to still be able to get one through HD.
Now I see that the original clutch hub friction disc was replaced with this nylon disc. I have the original bearing retaining plate that can be replaced with a ram jet retainer.
Question is should I go back to a conventional hub friction disc if I go with a ram jet retainer?
Was it thought that the original clutch hub friction disc caused the bike to be jerky when taking off?
Yeah, I was wondering why this would be there instead of a stock one. What is the friction disk designed to do?
Look on back of the Clutch Basket... Wouldn't want steel to steel interface of hub to Basket.. that Material you have is someones plan to make some money creating a Better mousetrap... That Isn't... see this **** all the time... wait till yer introduced to wavy washers in the Rocker Boxes!!!
Hell I won't even run the long rollers in the clutch hub.. caused me more problems than they ever cured... in fact never cured anything at all....
But it is Not all Smoke and Mirrors... whomever invented the Ramjet Retainer had their Poop in a Group, and Actually understood how the clutch Works!!!
the original idea behind the clutch disc attached to the hub was to slow it down when the clutch is pulled in - to around the same speed as the drum with out it the shifting is a bang not an engagement
