I'm becoming an expert at speedometer drive repairs. The tab broke on my 79 FXS and it doesn't reach the hole in the wheel. It's a later model wheel so that may be why, I don't know. Here's what I had:
I could have bought a new one, but where's the fun in that? All I needed to do is fill the hole with something. I have .250" brake line, that'll work. First grind off a little where the rotor covers the hole, and cut it to length:
Finally load it up with 5-minute epoxy and tap it into the hole:
Perfect! I'll verify it works when it stops raining, but I'm pretty sure it'll be good.
