Your opinion matters.
I was trying to solve some of the oil leaks on my dads 77 shovelhead by first cleaning the bike real good and then riding it for 30 minutes and waiting. I noticed a leak coming from the middle of the rear head and cylinder. I would love your opinion about these cylinders and their condition.
with your finger nail roll around the cylinder bore if your nail picks up like a clicking edge they might need to be re bored - if not we would ball hone and re ring it new cometic head gaskets and call it done see what happens - oil from the center is usually oil return seepage - but if you post the head gasket both sides would confirm
remove the piston rings brass brush and brake clean the ring grooves cover the block holes under the pistons with rags clean ones - install a set of cast iron rings if you don't have a ball hone if you do then use moly piston rings - hastings is all we use and they are not file fit they are install out of the box
it appears to be a solid lifter engine adjust loose roll no up and down at all on the loose roll - some of those solid inserts have springs under the top cap just turn till totally snug and back off till you have a loose roll when tight
follow the directions on the rings as to what way is up split the two compression rings 180 away from each other looking from the right side 7 oclock top ring 1 oclock second ring - the center oil expander with the top ring and right side front of the wrist pin one stainless ring and the other to the rear of the wrist pin - we have done thousands this way and never had an issue
Can you please clarify for me? I'm new at this. it appears to be a solid lifter engine adjust loose roll no up and down at all on the loose roll - some of those solid inserts have springs under the top cap just turn till totally snug and back off till you have a loose roll when tight
