Finished installing the paughco pipes and just fired it up. Still have a small leak at the rear pipe. Not near as bad as the old pipes. New gaskets and alternately tightened the flange nut and support bracket to get everything to pull up evenly. I am freaking stumped. This ain't rocket science. Any idea where I'm going wrong? Is there a thicker gasket available? Time for a beer or twelve so I can cool down and get the thoughts of slapping a for sale sign on it.
WE USE ULTRA GRAY SILICONE leave it 24 hours - what happens is it hardens especially after being hot and seals small leaks - some dont believe they have to live with the leak

Pipes are never a perfect fit at the flanges, use a smear of Permatex Ultra Gray on both sides of the gaskets and inside the head spigot a bit , install & torque it all back up, wipe the splooge off around the flange and let it dry overnight. You can lose a nut off the stud and the pipes won't fall off or leak. It works, been doing this way for decades on problem bikes, won't do my own without it.
the ones we use have serrated bottoms as they dig in - we stock them as 1/4 20 - 1/4 28 - 5 /16 18 - 5/16 24 and 3 /8 24 have found many places they are a go to as well
sporty front motor mounts have over sized 3/6 24 and smooth bottoms always look at swaps and pick a couple up i like the size
Finally calmed down after a night's sleep. Thanks for the advice on the ultra grey silicone. Heading out to get a tube now. I'll report back with the results tomorrow. Meanwhile, hope ya'll enjoy your 4th of July.
i replaced the allen head with the allen head stud, used the grey sealant and all is good........... its always a mater of tighten , loosen, jiggle it around a bit, tighten , loosen, jiggle it around when fitting exhausts.... oh and some cursing helps LOL.....HD must have put those chrome covers over the headers on a FLH so you dont lose those nuts ! i can see at a glance if they have moved or not, up against the chrome covers LOL
Finally. Started the bike a few minutes ago and no exhaust leaks. You guys are outstanding. Thanks for all of your help and advice. Time to button things up and go for a ride.
