- what you have is 1970 to 1972 side oil flywheels look at the pinion end it should have an oil feed hole in the side of it rhat goes into the cam cover bushing
of corse i saw the actual casting Numbers on the fly wheels but i can't find them listed in the H-D parts manuals . . .i cant look at the pinion shaft, as these photos are the ones posted in an ebay auction. . . .its hard to tell but i think that the pinion shaft is 73 & later . .

- amf was sloppy at things and that is one of them i think the early original book has the numbers but not after
i have H-D parts Manuals "FL Models 1941-1984" & "FX Models 1971-1984" & neither one lists these casting #s , i did find this supplement Manual on ebay & am currently waiting on an answer from the seller if the 1970 fly wheels are listed or not . . .
. . .hoping to find out if the casting #s are listed in this H-D supplement . . .
Parts Catalog 99456-71 . . .i would bet the fly wheels 23923-70A are listed in heir . . .

well if they are indeed interchangeable , i think all i would need is these set of fly wheels & a ' 73 & later nose cone cam cover , sense i couldn't the part #s for the fly wheels, i thought some one from the forum might know if this swap would work , that is taking a set of '72 cases & fitting them with a set of '70 fly wheels with '73 & later pinion shaft &'73 & up cam cover ,problem solved & i'll have a better up graded oiling mod to the crank !!

No one (to my knowledge) has taken it upon themselves to document (and publish) all the changes and progressions of Shovelhead models from 1966 to 1984.
Donny Peterson has a 2-volume set on Shovelheads but his information on flywheel assemblies only discusses them as a set/part number and not listed individually by left and right sides
