Default Speed O Meters

This is not a quiz question. I have 2 speedometers I stumbled across and wonder what years they were used. One is an 80 mph. Kind of figure it's late 70's on. The other is a 150mph. That ones got me puzzled. Both are HD's. Thanks for the help.

Post pics of front and back. Should be fairly easy to determine year used and such

The 80 MPH would be courtesy of Jimmy Carter so very late 1970's to very early 1980's. It may not be in the 1970's at all. I don't remember exactly when they mandated the 80 MPH speedos. It looks just like the one on my 1984 FXEF.

The bottom is what is on my almost stock 1978 FXE

The top appears to be what was introduced around 1980 for FX models; a similar version was used on FLH models as MoCo stopped using Stewart Warner speedos and switched to the "throw-away" Nippon Seki type for all their later builds.

1984 FLH American and Canadian versions

FYI, it was a federal law for all cars, pickup trucks and motorcycles to have only an 85 mph speedometer from September 1979 to March 1982.

(the government didn't want its citizens traveling in time by doing exactly 88 mph so they mandated the 85 mph speedometer)

Yes, I remember the double nickel. It really affected truckers trying to make time. Wasn't that good for Jimmy either.
