hello,
my 1983 Wide Glide had a front wheel speedo drive with dual discs from the factory,( i converted it to a 1:1 ractio transmission drive) so i think it should be possiable with out any problems do you have access to the H-D parts manuel ? if not i can look up the part numbers you'll need if you like . . .i changed mine because i did'nt like the way the speedo cable rubbed on the front fender paint when the fork was turned to the full left when turning & parking my Bike, it also looks cleaner with out the extra cable on the front end ,IMO . . .

I did have one installed on the the left front but just the width of the drive unit itself kept the wheel too far right of center. Maybe I should try a right side drive but not sure if I need a different axle

I have no idea about the Wideglide speed drive unit but regular FX speedo drive units come in about 3 widths if I recall correctly. They are model / year specific.

G'day from Sydney Australia,
I just had my 1980 Fatbob overhauled with a S&S 106ci and Rivera Primo 6 speed box and open primary. Both speedo and speedo sender are non-functional. I like the idea of taking the speedo off the transmission drive. But dont know where to start. I do have another speedo which I think is digital off a 2005 Sportster which I think I can make fit onto the tank dash. Any advice on available kits would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Steve

6 speed box won't take a mechanical drive, gearing arrangement and the case isn't set up for it.

Hi Steve,
i sold my front wheel drive speedo from my 83 wide glide about a month ago . . . what size front wheel are you running ? if you decide to make a mechanical drive unit , you might be able to use a speedo from late model Shovelhead set up with the front wheel drive speedo, you'd probably have to use a 19" front tire . . . are you using a FXS dash ? i don't know of any kits to make this conversion.

best regards, Troy
