Wiring isn't that big an issue, replacement harnesses are available or if you have the mindset and the time you do your own, I do with no issues.

You'll pick up vibrations you haven't dealt with before and handle bar buzz can be a bitch on old hands and contrary to what everybody is saying those pipes are baffled, Cycle Shack turnouts, I used to run them in 2" , my issue was with my riding habits I keep grinding the lower lip on them so I went to the tapered version instead.

You don't mind life at 60-65 once cleaned up, tuned and tweaked in a shovel can be a very reliable bike but they do shake.
Thanks TwiZted.
I have ridden several Shovels but it’s been longer than I care to admit.

Buy the bike, not the tale.

Good advice. The guy is about 60 miles from me said he does ride it so a face to face and test rides is not an issue. Says he’s been a Shovel guy most of his life.
He got this one several months ago from someone he knows that got it as barn find and got it back in runnable rideable condition after it sat for five years. Said he has replaced the ignition switch and has a new bendix for it but hasn’t installed it.
I’m thinking of asking him if he’s willing to put some cash with it to cover any hidden issues that may come up. I’m thinking $2,500.00.

if he sounds agreeable to that, I may meet with him.

I realize his if it were in the same condition as mine it would be worth more than mine but without knowing more about it, I’m hesitant to do a straight trade.

OK.
After going into the garage and talking to Creamcicle, who by the way is not happy I'm even considering sending her to another home, and spending some time in my think tank, AKA *******, I decided to not pursue this any further.
After all, I have a great running and looking bike now. I just wish I could get this damn habit of mine to always want something other than what I already have under control.
Every time time I've done this, I kicked myself in the *** later.
Maybe I need an intervention.

Therez early and late 78 models. Biggest change was the addition of the V-1 Electronic ignition Sytem (L78). They either worked...or they didn't. MoCo didn't really get it right until they came out with the V-2 system a couple of years later. HD also introduced the 80 cu in motor to get around the emmision standards. 1978 mid year changes in engines included steel valve guides replaced by cast iron to help eliminate valve sticking, new valves with hardedned stems for the same reason, and a new intake manifold with a single lip at the cylinder head that mated to ne flat )-rings for a better seal than the old round O-rings provided.

HD produced about 5K of the FLH 1200 models (including the Anniversay models) and about 2.5K of the FLH 80 models.

That said there is no way I would trade out the FXSTS for the Shovel.

If the guy is only asking $2,500 you ought to post up his contact information in here. Someone might want it.

I’m not sure where you came up with that figure. He doesn’t even have it up for sale.

@carlgrover
If you are interested in the 78 and want to PM me with your contact info I will be happy to give it to him in case he does want to sell it. The $2,500.00 figure you mentioned in your earlier post is what I was thinking about telling him I would want in addition to his bike if we were to do a trade. He seems very knowledgeable and I assume that were he to sell it, he would want considerably more than 2.5K.
He did tell me yesterday that he was getting ready to put on new set of tires and install the Bendix on the bike. He said the tires that are on it are still good but he doesn't like white walls.
He also had no issues with riding the bike to a meeting spot so we could inspect each others bikes so I don't think it is unreliable per say.
