Sometimes the lifters would get a varnish on them and stick. There was stuff like Marvel Mystery oil that could clean them up a bit.There were others as a sticking lifter was common.
Don't know how some might think about adding some unknown stuff to their HD but it probably isn't as bad as the air it breathes.

Just curious, how do you know with certainty, that it is a lifter collapsing?
