I didn't prime mine. In reality only a small percent of the oil is going through it at any time. No change in oil pressure the first time the thermostat opened. I guess though if it really worries you you could pour some oil in before you mount it.
It's a radiator & a couple of hoses. Not like you're gonna dry grind the cooling gears. There's nothing in there to damage. Just let it fill when the oil gets there.
Ive installed my own and from the way it started leaking the first time I fired it up, it takes no time at all. Remember theres over a qt of oil in the sump and that get injected thru the engine right away. No worries.
