Default Oil Cooler Installation question

For all you guys that installed your own new oil cooler, how did you prime it up so that it did not run dry while it filled? Thanks

don't worry about it.

when cold the thermostatic valve is closed so the oil cooler won't be in operation on start up.

I guess the first time it opens, there will be a fill period and momentary interruption of oil volume and pressure

Its that momentary interruption that bothers me. I'm wondering if the oil cooler can be prefilled to some extent. I always prefill my new oil filters!

I didn't prime mine. In reality only a small percent of the oil is going through it at any time. No change in oil pressure the first time the thermostat opened. I guess though if it really worries you you could pour some oil in before you mount it.

It's a radiator & a couple of hoses. Not like you're gonna dry grind the cooling gears. There's nothing in there to damage. Just let it fill when the oil gets there.

Ive installed my own and from the way it started leaking the first time I fired it up, it takes no time at all. Remember theres over a qt of oil in the sump and that get injected thru the engine right away. No worries.

Do ya lay the bike over on its left side to screw the filter on?

You're supposed to prime it?

Didn't prime my oil bud, and don't prime my oil filters either like some do.
