Dug out the ham can air cleaner.
My mistake - it's from a 1984 FLHT and probably wouldn't look right on a late FLH shovel.
Free to anyone who wants it.
I get 40 puttin around town and maybe as much as 50 loaded for travel hiway miles with stock Keihin my '81 FXB.
I lost HP after removing the Mikuni HSR45 but for me I wanted to get back to that big ugly ham can
Nice!
I would be happy with 40 or better. I rode 150 miles Sunday morning and got about 28 mpg, and never got over 70 mph, my car gets better mileage.
I like the original look and am not worried about losing a little power.
I tried every size jet I could find in the S&S last summer and settled in where it runs and idles smooth and doesn't spit back. The Super B is just too big for my stock motor. When you have that much air going in it takes a lot of gas to get it to run smooth
I ran a Super E shorty on a 1340 Evo and it worked great for many years. Took a couple hrs to setup but never touched it again until it needed rebuilt. My Evo was a1340 and my '81 shovel is a 1340. I guess I always assumed the S&S would work on the shovel as well. Alot of guys ran the old Super B on shovels and pans. I didnt like them as well because you dont get an accelerator pump with a B. Super E shorty fits in the same space as the original Keihin and good for up to 100 HP
Clean up an old Keihin, they have the accelerator pump, carb kits are cheap and they are easy to setup.
If you do, don't try to add the adjustable main jet kit to the Keihin because the adjuster will not fit with the ham can.
shortys are pretty awesome on a shovel - I also setup a shorty on my 78 my 81 and my 48 shoveltop and have never had to fool with them in the last 5 years. I also have never had problems with Bendix carbs on shovels or sportys

I would love to have this assembly for the 1985 Shovelhead FLHP I'm trying to restore.
If you are willing to ship it overseas of course. I live in the Netherlands (Europe)

If I had a shorty I probably wouldn't bother changing. The Super B sticks out so far that I can only get my heel on the footboard and it gets old on a long ride. But since I have a Kehin and not a shorty I am going to try that first. I will only have the cost of the kit and the air cleaner invested so it's worth it to see how it works.
