Default Chassis number question

My 1200 FLH has chassinumber 2A36976H9, which would make it a 1979 model based on the H9, or so I'm told.

But the bike was imported here with this chassisnumber and paperwork, on which it states it's a 1976 model?

So it is registered as a 1976 model and I would like to know what's what so can anyone shed some light on this?

Does the VIN # on the frame match the VIN # on the engine cases?

H9 should be 1979

Yes, vin on enginecase and frame are the same, although vin on frame seems a bit iffy upon further inspection....

There are no stars at the beginning and end of the nummer and the 9 looks like an upside down 6...

their frame VIN's were lightly stamped, yours look good so there will be stars there, just so light ya cant see them with the paint on that part,....
& at a guess they registered it as a 76 as those are the last 2 digits of the production number part of the VIN & whoever regestered it didnt know how to read a Harley VIN number....

Agree...accross the board... certainly a 1979, no getting around that!
Do relocate that wire bundle that has been being pinched by the Fork Stop...

Lol yes I still have to correct some things on it, bit **** it's a '79 as I bought it as '76, same year as me...

But the frame looks good like this? Jezus wept, so AMF wasn't even able to stamp a vin properly...

AMF didn`t stamp a thing, the people at Harley Davidson stamped that frame.

AMF didn`t cause Harley Davidson to produce substandard products, they bought a company that was already producing them, and circling the drain...
