Replacing my exhaust and picked up a James Fire Ring Gasket - Stud & Nut Kit (JGI-SE-1) for my ‘76 FXE. Anyone have experience with these, good bad? Recommendations for install, anti-seize on the studs going into the head or other? Thanks!
Don't antiseize the head end of the stud or they'll work loose on you. Good conversion.
I personally use a smear of Permatex Ultra Gray on the gaskets and the lip of the pipe going into the port. Wipe off the extra and let sit overnight to dry, stops a lot of pipe stupid with the old bikes.
Helicoils or equivalent in the heads , lock tight the stud or bolt screwing into the thread insert . “ 100 % Silicone RTV “ both sides of the gasket as suggested , and you will have many miles of trouble free exhaust leaks ahead of you .
I have friends Racing 8 second cars , they no longer run a header gasket at the head , bead of 100% Silicone from the caulking gun , around the header flange , allow to dry completely , bolt it up no leaks .

I’ve looked at these kits and now thinking to pick one up. James is priced better, like $21. Maybe just have it on hand to swap one day. I’d install as TwiZted Biker noted. Looking to see how this kit works for you. I’m trying to understand how the James is better. The separate studs with nut on top stay put?
The locking kit I’m using, even using red locktite isn’t holding. I already lost the all the rear pipe locking pieces on the way to the AMCA meet 7/31. I had issues with it just loosening up then went to the red locktite on a return visit to Docs to address a few things during break in. I’m thinking the safety wire set up I had when I got the shovel might go in my saddlebag. My kit…Lot a money for nutz n bits. Exhaust Port Lock Kit 37-8255 | Vital V-Twin Cycles. Supposed to be USA
not Chiwanese despite being V-Twin product.
Timely thread for me ;-)

While I did Not Know there was such a Kit... Been using Red loctite, and Studs that nearly Bottom... then nuts on pipe flange. Some Silicone on pipe don't hurt, and Helps if poor fit. I also sometimes use an Evo Gasket, stretched over pipe on pipes that dont fit just so...
