You have to measure the voltage drop when starting. What did your meter read when you were cranking the old battery?

Voltage vs Amps, a battery may show 12.xx voltage but the plates may be sulfated/used up and not have enough Amps to push the voltage.

Load test shows how many Cold Cranking Amps a battery has and is the best way to determine if a battery is good or not.

If you had the battery hooked up, not used for six months, and not on a battery maintainer then the battery was most likely gone. Additionally, heat is an issue and will kill batteries quicker than colder climates.

Maybe because you are in the land down under the battery was installed upside down.............just kidding.............good that you got it working.

My batteries Never see a Tender ...etc... do Not get removed for winter either... they last 3 years (about) regardless... A Voltmeter is all that is required...sitting at 12.6+ = 100%
12.3 = 50%
12.0=Dead!!!
I only use AGM batteries from a Particular (semi-trusted) supplier..
except for the Indian... that sucker has the Battery in the Dumbest location ever... and the Bikes are Known for continual Draw on the Battery..it has a Dekka, and a Tender.

12.0 while trying to crank it over after a long charge is what i had. my shovel battery is doing the same and is the same age sometimes i wonder if chargers are a waste of time. it makes me think a flat battery is a dead one thanks
