It's a wide glide fender, 1980 up at least.

Or "Bob" fender. Or "Ducktail" fender. They were around way before the WG came out.

When I was restoring my 82 WG there was a detail that I overlooked at first and Montoya pointed it out. The fender struts were longer on the WG which changed how it looked. I dont recall if the fender was different for those longer struts or not. Like I said in my post, at least 1980 meaning possibly older but at least the OP knows what bike had it.

I'm guessing I'm remembering the custom applications. Guys cutting off the front of an FL rear fender and rolling it forward. I "thought" maybe "Jammers" offered something off the shelf before 1980 factory ducktail, but can't find anything to prove that. For the record, I never lived in the city...or town, lol

I'm Glad for ya Not bein a "town kid".. There certainly were the beginnings of that style.. like the front on the rear (something I always thought looked like someone Mentally Challenged dreamed up) just a smidge better than the Dresser rear fender without the Hinge section!! Especially "rolled up" FUGLY
No... The Japanese beat Willie to the Draw.. look at the mid to late 1970's Kaw Triple's or even the F series Honda..Yea... Willie was a "visionary"!!!!!
So are all those Cool Kids... Reinventing the Wheel!!!!
Still I am Gonna stand by the Statement...the FXWG rear fender is the Most copied (especially on Shovelheads) in the Harley World!!!
and I do Like them....On a "Real" FXWG!!!!!

First

Last (Shovel)

last iteration... No Matter What the MoCo Says...

The ducktail aftermarket fender was around in the later 60's & 70's at least, you had that or the old 6" flat as options for the chops back then, built several bikes mid 70's on with them. I did one of the first cateye taillights stuffed up under the tip on one in KC, everybody else was still doing the shin killer running the tag & taillight off the axle.

House fire in 82 took all my early chopper days photos, got one shot of 9'6" long chop I had I can't post because young ex wifey's rack is out in all their glory.
