In the even earlier days, guys would run the front fender on the back, rotated to allow for the back of the fender to stick up. VL fenders have a more pronounced curve and worked better than later Knuckle fenders. No pictures, but it happened.

The MoCo "custom" touches generally follow what guys did on the streets, many years before.

Back when people used what was Available...
Built...Not Bought... Still don't make them asthetically Pleasing...
And... look at the '70's rear fenders, On Japanese Motorcycles...then tell who first thought it up!!! weren't No Harley types...nor Willie G!!
Memories Fade... Pictures... can't Fib

I am talking about a bobber like this, VL front fender on the back, rotated to stick up. When the Knuckle came out, the swoop was less pronounced, easy to spot one done with a VL fender. Way before 70's metric bikes.

Those fenders were a hot item at swap meets in the 70's in Kansas City. Lost track of a guy in Ohio who had a literal barn full of the old flat head & trike stuff.

Yes...using front fender on back was maybe as popular then, as it has become now..
I guess i am talking about being able to buy one... Back then "Built Not Bought" was life...Not a Slogan!!
BTW... I still thing those "rotated" fenders are Ridiculous.. but...again...all they had back when.. and still better than a Hinged fender without a tail....Fugly!!!!

I found that fender in Oley in 2016 with the funky orange paint and tiger stripes. Front fender painted by a buddy years later to match.

If you have the tail section with the Tiger stripes, I am interested!??!?!?!?!??!

As a former MoCo employee who visited dealers for 10 years fixing bikes and service departments, I can most definitely without a doubt say with the utmost truth that you are correct. haha.

Just look at the Rocker. And now the Dynas with the Sons of Anarchy inspired mini fairings that were on the old police bikes. We used to have a meeting in Milwaukee every summer right before Sturgis to ride the new product and we all used to joke the night before of what old parts they found that they were going to bolt onto a bike and call it a new model.
