Default Late 70’s shovelhead in panhead dropseat frame

Hoping I didn’t get myself into a pickle with this one. I was building a swingarm chop in a standard frame and came upon a dropseat frame. I know the engine will fit but will a late ratchet top(1978) fit the 1958-64 FL frame without changing the case or trimming the ears? Thanks for any help on this one.

It will Go... But some modifications are generally required..
BTW terminology, The "seat" aint dropped one bit, as it was Mounted on the Pogo Stick...No O.E. nor typical aftermarket seat fits in a "dropped" style...In fact, they sit identically...BTDT
For whatever reason, I was taught that was a Drop Link Frame.. or how about '58 - '64 DuoGlide Frame!!!
My Biggest Problem in My State (actually it is National Law) The Frame is the Numbered component of any Post 1970 Harley... while the Engine is the host of the VIN on any pre 1970 H-D..
Course... There is always a "builder title" Very Desireable.... NOT

Thanks for all the comments so far. The oil tank I’m able to fit but will have to turn up some custom spacers for the front mounts on my lathe as well as fabricating some support brackets for the rear. The transmission is my biggest concern on this duoglide frame. I rebuilt this ratchet top this summer and it’s in great shape so I’d hate to make significant mods on it. If it’s something as simple as changing the trans plate or modifying it I’m game. Worst case scenario the frame is a no go, I’m not financially wrapped up heavy into it as it’s a modified duoglide with a bit or rake and up. Thanks again.

They raised the drop link to make room for an electric starter in 1965. The trans didn't change afaik, but as John said, the lower oil tank takes up all the room. Kick only you'll be good.

Thanks for the reply, it is going to be a kick only machine so no need to accommodate starter.

Not my favorite way to title but I managed to transfer the assembled title that started in Michigan and worked itself into a hell of a knot in Wisconsin before I unraveled it in Illinois. So as of current I have a clean Illinois title for assembled 1340cc motorcycle.

My 57 frame, 70 motor bike is titled suspiciously as well. It’s titled as a 1970 FLH… but it’s what’s left of a heavily modified 57 frame. I bought it really rough and basket like without a title when I was in my early twenties. But it came with the 70 motor and title. The bike has been registered in three states and it’s been with me like 30 years. I’ve had no problems with it with law enforcement or DMV.

If I had a 57 title with a 70 motor I’d probably be fine too.. So its not always a horror story.
