Default 1980 FXB Sturgis

I am new to this forum. Daily ride is 2010 Street Glide.
I have opportunity to buy a 1980 FXB Sturgis 1 owner ( My uncle bought it new) just passed away.
Family wants an offer from me, there's so much info out there I don't want to overpay but cant screw family either.
Its probably 90% original, I was told he had engine work done that is was not a 80CC anymore by a friend of his. Has S&S carb and straight pipes but from what I can tell its pretty much original.
The dirt you se is cobwebs as it has been sitting since 2007 covered in a garage. Tanks are rusted inside but great shape outside.
Any help on price and where to find any parts would be greatly appreciated.

16000 miles but overall in great shape.

I wouldn't be quick to condemn every rubber seal and gasket, I'd be buying that bike asap and get it running! Bleed the brakes, change the fluids, address the inside of the tanks and of course new tires. If something else needs addressing once you get into it or its on the road then do that at that time.

That is a keeper for sure ... Originality and family history have value ... Ask them what they HAVE to have ??

80 was the first year and also the year with the least number produced so that has value as well. OEM parts can be found on eBay but most aren’t cheap. Luckily it doesn’t look like it needs much if original is your goal. Don’t use online ads/sales as a benchmark for your offer as most people on there are way out of line, and will never sell theirs. Hopefully since it’s family to family they don’t feel like being able to retire off of the sale.

Sitting for over 15 years is problematic,it will need tires an overhaul of the brake system and the motor/trans/primary will probably need many new gaskets and seals.
That and the rust in the tank,no doubt a battery possibly fork seals etc.
Nice looking old Shovel but you'll probably have to spend quite a bit to get it back to a safe reliable rider again so that must be figured into the equation.
It might be hard to convey all that to family if they don't know much about vintage bikes,if you get the bike for say $3500 you can expect to likely spend that much more getting it back into shape.
If you have to pay $6000 for it you'll probably be upside down in value when it's back in good shape.
You could probably clean the gas tank and change the fluids buy a battery clean the carb and get it running but it'll likely leak oil in short order and you'd still need tires and brake work especially the rubber bits.

I doubt he'd be upside down but it really doesn't matter if his goal is a "keeper" ... just my opinion ;>)

I bought a ’95 Road King last year that had been sitting up for 15 years. I was approached by a friend who was trying to help his old dad sell it. The dad wouldn’t name a price. So I made an offer. Too low. This went on for a year. I finally bumped my offer a grand, and when his wife heard that, she told him “SELL IT!"

Like Hellonewman said. Just get it running and see what else it needs. I picked up a 1944 BSA M20 that had been sitting for 30 to 40 years as a winter project. Thankfully, the PO’S had drained the fuel and oil tanks. Had it running in a couple of days. Needs work but bought right, you won’t get hurt. These old machines are hard to kill.

Buy it, take it, what ever. I know a guy who will buy the seat, bar, pad and tool pouch in a heart beat. That said don't sell it to him/me.
I wouldn't worry too much about what someon said about the cost to get it in shape, but what do I know.

BTW if you choose not to buy it PM me, I may make then an offer. I could take the Original parts, change to mine + what I have stored and have an original and a rider.
