Default Tank question

I'm putting 3 1/2 gallon tanks om My 73FX, the right tank sits tight on the rear head. How much room do I need to space them out? They are not stock tanks CCI I think. If I use a bigger spacer on the rear mount should I space the front upper out the same amount? Thanks

I run stock 5 Gallon tanks on my 1970, right tank is too close for me to the rocker box. I have a 3/8" spacer on the rear stud, nothing on the front. Not noticeable at all, but it gave me the clearance I felt better about. Just simple spacers on the rear tank mount stud and go. Good luck.

We see that type spacer quite a bit some times because of the tank curv one is a little shorter then the other so sitting on the machine its uniform to look down

I would want a 1/4" at least in all directions from the engine. It's going to grow as it heats up.

That is how I have mine spaced, before the spacer I could not get a sheet of paper between the rocker box and underside of tank. I know my tank is original, perhaps the engine grew in height during her life and multiple rebuilds (not being sarcastic). It happens, do what you must the gain some clearance, no one is going to notice later.

I mounted them with a 1/2" spacer on the right side and a 5/16" spacer on the left side. It now clears the rear head and looks even. Thanks for the replies.
