Also at the end of all this, If I can get the bike looking somewhat like the one in this video I'd be ecstatic, the rear end looks lowered but it gives the bike a fantastic look.
I tried pulling off the sissy bar and it seems like its fixed to the struts, would I need all new struts and signal lights?
The sissy bar mounting plates slip out from between the fender and struts when you remove the bolts. There should be a slot in the mounting plates for the turn signal wires so you don't have to disconnect. Harley put thick washers between the fender and struts on bikes without a sissy bar, you should do the same.
Any suggestions on a specific material I can purchase for the front brake caliper rattle? I've read people have used old fuel line, No idea what kind of foam tape to get either. Set the carb to a local guy, got a few week turnaround on that, so we'll have to wait and see how that turns out.
The Official HD Caliper Anti-rattle tape is described in Service Bulletin M-842. It consists of foam tape HD part number 44120-82 You must use two pieces per each calliper so you have to order 4 per vehicle.
You might try 3/8" thick by 3/8" wide closed cell foam window weatherstripping tape or something similar from a hardware store. Or look to see of the part from the service bulletin is available.
Guys, we did it. Sorry I don't have pictures at this point in time but I got the carb back from my guy all rebuilt and it looks SPANKIN new, every part on this thing looks brand new and the body is bead blasted clean, absolutely amazing work. Shout out to Carbs-R-Us in Thomaston CT!!
Now for the good news, the bike runs flawlessly! Took it for a rip down the road and back, got it up to third with no issues at all.
I've been lazy about the caliper tape since the carb was taking so long, so I still have to jump on that, the clutch plates on the other hand I will have to save for a rainy day.
