Welp...I thought the 2:1 went longer than 1980...but...I guess 1980 was the Last!! a 4 year only thing!!!
My sales brochure shows the 1981 Fatbob and Superglide with the 2 into 1, tapered muffler. Harley called the Sturgis and Lowrider and wideglide custom editions in the brochure and is a separate section.I have heard that they came both ways but have not seen any proof of that.
The Wide Glide never came with the 2-1, always dual staggered. The Sturgis switched to the dual staggered in 81, so early ones that year may have been made with the 2-1. All Sturgis with 2-1 used the tapered end muffler.
I like the look of this exhaust, does it sound as good as a it looks?
No. They sound terrible. The tapered muffler sounds just as bad as the slash cut.
I had the 2-1 tapered muffler on my Sturgis and loved the look, but there was no way I could live with the weak sound. I switched to the staggered duals with screamin eagle mufflers. Now it sounds like a harley should.
I like the look of this exhaust, does it sound as good as a it looks?
Not stock... But, I have one Stock, and one half *** Gutted..The Gutted one is better sounding...slightly..
My problem with the H-D 2:1 is the shear Weight...extremely heavy buggers... But...I too Love the Look!!!!
By my reconning, the cross-over staggered duals, with Offroad Mufflers, outperforms anything tried, excepting Home Brewed, Custom for Application Racing Pipes..
Oh, and based on an unnamed "professional" source...the Thunderheader Outperformed well setup Staggered Duals (with crossover)...By a small bit...mostly at the Bottom.
