[QUOTE=Ken45;22147326]The drive sprocket has quite a bit if drag on it. It should spin free. If run low on oil there may be damage ? I do not want to cause more damage by running it. If it was just the leak I would not be as concerned.[/
They do have a bit of drag...just depends on your definition of "a bit" Mine doesn't spin like a wheel, it has drag but that is normal....according to my definition of "a bit".

Shovel boxes are like that but should be smooth to turn. Best to pull the top off though as the vendor appears to live in an alternative reality and you need to know what is going on in there.
Excuse me if my Brain is misfiring...But, On our '79, we could get the inner primary so poorly aligned, that the bearing put the Mainshaft in a terrible Bind... Maybe loosen the inner and check...
It looks to me that the inner primary has been off to have the chain rub area by the starter welded up. From what I can see with it assembled I do not see any cracks on the inner. I read somewhere that if a cork seal was used in the wrong manner that it could cause the bind so I wonder if that may be it. In the end I will have to take it apart to see what is going on. Will probably wind up taking the transmission out and going through it. I guess I will start collecting the tools that I will be needing for the job for starts.
Just a warning - my 4-speed started getting tight in places, and it wound up being the countershaft bushings were binding to the gears, not enough clearance. Could have become an expensive problem if they spun in the case.

No. They sound terrible. The tapered muffler sounds just as bad as the slash cut.
I had the 2-1 tapered muffler on my Sturgis and loved the look, but there was no way I could live with the weak sound. I switched to the staggered duals with screamin eagle mufflers. Now it sounds like a harley should.
Still have that factory 2-1? (I'm looking for one.)
