Thanks all for te replies.I did previously clean the tank & checked the filter on petcock. All seemed good.I will get the carb back on & see how she runs. Thanks also to y2k, Stiggy & racepres on info on ignition system.Ill let you all know how I make out.
^^ Anyone with a Modicum of experience with Shovels and Early Evo's will have an EI "box" laying about... very Fast swap to check that the pick-up is Not to blame!!
If you don't locate one...drop a PM...I will send ya One!!!!
BTW... ensure.. that the "Proper" Seals and Clamps are utilized on your intake manifold, (no Magic Internet, nor Chiwanese, Crap here please), and the Carb is Properly supported.... Pics maybe???
The old girl is up & running again.Rebuilt the carb & cleaned out the gas tank and took for a test run. Seems to run great.👍🤞I also replaced the clutch hub assembly. I pulled the primary cover off & noticed rivets by the magnetic drain plug.Removed clutch plates and disks & saw the clutch hub material had failed. I tried to video it running but the forum won't import it.
All good now. Thanks for all your input.
If you don't support that carb...Nothing but bad gonna follow. Sometimes a rigid moount can get away with that stuff...Never on any RubberGlide...they will throw the Carb right Off...
I sure would Like to see a Real Air Filter, on there...

Well bad news went about 10 miles & bike started missing & coughing,It died but started up again.I rode to a safe place & pulled over & let sit for 5 minutes. It started right up & made it the 7 mile home before acting up again. It seems to do it when its up to temperture.Racepress You mention about supporting the carb I was wondering where I could do that, maybe you could give me some insight. Also the dyno s is mentioned. Is this hard to install & time?I think I might be able to locate a E I box at Bills cycles if not I will check with you racepress.Appreciate all the help.I dont know much about shovels. Thanks
Do the intake leak test I mentioned earlier before you do or touch anything else, you really need to settle that first. Get that out of the way we can walk you through getting supports on the carb.
I'm betting she's leaking air at the intake seals.

Dyna S is easily static timed. (Spark plug fires when the pick up is manually advanced against the stop. Piston at TDC.)
I did spray the brake cleaner at the intake & didnt notice any changes.I will do it again tomorrow. Thanks twiZted biker. Also thanks Stiggy on dyna s ignition.
Just checking that little step gets overlooked or ignored more than you'd guess. It eliminates a potential issue. Warm the bike good this time before trying it.
