Want to put forward on my 1979 FXE shifter side of frame is fine. Brake side lacks the mounting block with the threaded holes to mount the brake. Has anyone ran into that I was told it was common on the 79 frame?
Common on some of the FX series frames with mid controls, they sell a premade tab that can be welded to the frame. You can make it or have made cheap. Added several over the years. Probably have one if you want dimensions. This is what the factory one looks like or most just use a bit of 3/4"x 1/2" thick bar stock.
Hi TwiZted Biker thanks for the quick response that sounds just what I need. If possible I'd appreciate the dimensions if you still have them Thanks again Tim
Piece of 3/4" wide x 1/2" thick flat bar 2-3/4" long, bolt holes are 3/8-16 thread, 2" inch center to center, start the first hole 3/8" in from the end center of the bar. Looks like this.
You can use a bit wider bar if you want to grind to shape like the first picture. Trick is getting the angle correct and square to the frame and tacked on before welding, best to use the plate that bolts to it to get all right.
I had a 1976 FXE with the right side boss, but saw very many 1977's missing the boss. I thought it was mostly a 1977 issue.
I highly recommend finding 1980-1982 factory Wide Glide forward controls. I had them on my 76, 77, and 84 FX's.
I do Not understand How that works... as the FXS and FXWG had the mounting boss...yet the FXE (et al) did Not..
I guess it makes sense that the MoCo would Drop that boss along with the introduction of the FXS..1977! Yet reintroduce on the "new" FXWG! 1980..
I was told by an ex dealership owner that HD cut that boss off so it wasn't easy to convert the less expensive model to forward controls essentially forcing you to buy a different model if you wanted that. True or not I dont know but wouldn't surprise me.

By My Naked Eye...No...But I only have access to 3 examples currently. Easier Cheaper for the Factory to simply Not Install that bracket.. This was AMF, who knew volumes about Saving Money!!
